Sober Living Home Insurance in Indiana and Kentucky
Applegate Pulliam Insurance Group writes sober living home insurance in Indiana and Kentucky, and a sober living home can't be insured like a regular rental: rental coverage can exclude it.
Most recovery homes we look at are insured the wrong way, on a landlord or homeowners policy that was never written for people in recovery living in the house. When there's a claim, that's when the owner finds out.

Why a rental policy doesn't fit a recovery home
A standard landlord policy is written for a family renting a house. Some rental contracts specifically say the property can't be used as a recovery residence. If yours does, a claim can be denied, and the liability exposure of a house full of residents is very different from a single-family rental.
Three things to check on your policy today
- How is the property described? If the policy says "single-family rental" or "owner-occupied," it may not match how the house is used.
- Is there an exclusion for group or recovery use? Read the exclusions page, or send it to us and we'll read it.
- What's the liability limit? More people living in the house means more exposure than a typical rental.
What we write for sober living and recovery homes
- Property coverage written for how the house is actually used
- General liability for the operator
- Coverage for single houses and operators with several homes
We work with insurance companies that write habitational and recovery risks, and we'll tell you plainly what's available for your home. Also own standard rentals? Those go on a landlord policy.
Sober living home insurance questions
- Can I insure a sober living home on a landlord policy?
- Often not correctly. Many rental policies are written for a family renting a house, and some exclude recovery or group use. We'll read yours and tell you.
- Do you insure halfway houses and recovery residences?
- Yes, in Indiana and Kentucky, through insurance companies that write habitational and recovery risks.
- What do you need to quote a recovery home?
- The address, how many residents, whether staff live on site, and your current policy if you have one.
- I run several houses. Can they go on one policy?
- Often, yes. We'll quote it both ways.
